KINGS AND PRIESTS
Which Office Do We Hold Today ?
A Daystar Masterpiece On Business
Religiosity and mysticism are what have undermined the Body of Christ from advancing financially. And if you're conflicted as to whether you should engage in business and commerce or simply devote your whole life to church work, unless by divine instruction, pay attention to this important counsel from the Bible.
Many Christians today hide under the mask of Proverbs 23:4 to justify their laziness and self-pity, though the Scripture itself is simply a warning against obsession with wealth. The verse reads, “Labour not to be rich.”
What they have not yet realized is that there is a huge difference between practice in the Old Testament and the New Testament. You could not hold the office of both king and priest in the Old Testament; you could only be one. Priests were not assigned lands to avert any reason for self-defense later, so the Lord became their inheritance. Also, Joseph did not trade with the priests in Goshen, so that truth is settled. But as a king, he engaged in trade, just as Solomon did.
Interestingly, in the New Testament, we have been made both kings and priests unto God. Revelation 1:5 declares that, just as Jesus is, we now hold these two offices. So you can be a full servant of God and fully engaged in business as well. Understand this!
And clearly, every king like Solomon who ever advanced financially “laboured to be rich” with the wisdom they received from God. There are readings for kings and others for priests. Do not mix the two. Scriptures inspired by God must be profitable; if not, then it is not a reading for your dispensation.
Every child of God has the grace to excel in business as part of the kingly office in Christ Jesus. This world is ours, and Jesus told us to make friends with wealth. God is a Creator; hence every offspring of His must follow suit!
Unless you are called into full-time ministry with confirmation and conviction for endurance, I suggest you start something, add value to your world, engage in trade and business, and quit laziness. As a king, the war is won, but battles await you. Labour to be rich with the wisdom of God!
Paul later explained the balance and relevance of grace in hard work. 1 Corinthians 15:10 reads: “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”
Grace, thus the wisdom of God like what Solomon received, is for labour, not idleness. Be diligent in business as a king in Christ Jesus.
